The Stadel, a boutique hotel and leisure club within the Salt Lake stadium recently completed it’s 15 years in the city. Cradled within the heart of the Salt Lake Stadium it is perhaps the only hotel in India to be built under the sports stadium ramps. The hotel is known for it’s comprehensive bouquet of hospitality services. In an effort to reach out to a wider segment The Stadel has started a new initiative of curating hospitality solutions beyond borders.
One of the first of such initiatives was held on Thursday, 22nd Nov 2018 which focused on Jute & Heritage. The event was partnered with Ministry of External Affairs and organised by BAUL (Bespoken Architecture & Unique Legacies) in association with Ministry of Tourism.
The walk was led by Mr. Anil Bhutoria, Director, The Stadel ; Mr. Samrat Chowdhury from Welcome Heritage, Ms. Lata Bajoria & Mr. Debasish Nayak. They guided the participants on an exploration of the history of the mill, contribution of jute in environmental conservation and revealing a unique way of the life of the settlers. The other attractions of this walk included a visit to the jetty within the compound and appreciating the 100 year old tree. After having a sumptuous breakfast at the heritage Kona Bungalow overseeing the river guests/participants were taken on totos to a discovery trail of the mills. Guests meandered through the the colossal jute godown & mill to the pump house and ending it again with lunch at the Kona bungalow.
