Anusree Jana, Kolkata : The University Grants Commission or UGC of India has declared 23 of functional institutes from across the country as unlawful and unqualified to award degrees for higher education.
These 23 universities are ‘ fake’ according to UGC as they are neither permitted by UGC nor any State, Central or Provincial Act and they are also not permitted by any Parliament Act.
UGC warned the existing student and common public that any degrees awarded by these institutes will be null and void.
Uttar Pradesh contributes to the highest number of 8 among the list of 23 institutes, followed by Delhi with number 7. Kerala, Karnataka, Maharashtra , Puducherry, Odisha and even 2 institutes from West Bengal are in the list of fake institutes by UGC.
Delhi’s Indian Institution of Science and Engineering, New Delhi. Viswakarma Open University for Self-employment, United Nations University are in the list of institutes that are not registered lawfully.
The 2 institutes from West Bengal are Indian Institute of Alternative Medicine, Institute of Alternative Medicine and Research.
Varanaseya Sanskrit Vishwavidyalaya and Mahila Gram Vidyapith/Vishwavidyalaya, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose University (Open University) of Uttar Pradesh are among the declared list of UGC.
These universities are still fully functional.
