All India Tiger Estimation Report 2018 was released on July 29, World Tiger Day 2019 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Tiger Estimation survey in India is conducted and released every 4 years and the last report was in 2014. According to that, the recent report was to be released sometime in January 2019. Though it was delayed, the late result comes bearing great news as the tiger population is around 3000.
The tiger population in India has increased to 2967 in 2019 from 2226 in 2014. This number in 2019 is double to 1706 in 2010.PM Modi said India has achieved great feat of doubling the numbers of tiger before estimated time of 2022 as was decided in St. Petersburg in 2010 . “Today we reaffirm our commitment towards protecting tigers. Results of the just declared Tiger Census would make every Indian happy. Nine years ago it was decided in St. Petersburg that target of doubling tiger population will be 2022. We completed this target 4 years early,” he said.
Modi also added India to be one of the safest tiger habitats because of the growing numbers as Indiaâs Tiger Census has seen a 33 percent growth rate in the last nine or so years. “With around 3,000 tigers, India has emerged as of one of the biggest and safest habitats for them in world,” Modi
According to the Tiger Census 2018, Madhya Pradesh has the highest numbers of tigers 526, Karnataka is on number 2 position with the number 524, followed by Uttarakhand on 3 rd position and it has 442 tigers.
PM Modi cites Indiaâs this achievement as âthe finest example of Sankalp Se Siddhi (Attainment through Resolve)â.And he is hopeful that the numbers in Tiger Census will flourish.
