“Vigyan Samagam”, a unique and first ever mega science exhibition in India, organized by the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), Mumbai, Department of Science & Technology (DST), New Delhi in unison, has been open for public display and has been showcasing the world from micro to macro, unveiling the efforts of the international community in understanding the Universe.
In a recent conversation with Shri Arun Srivastava, Secretary AEC and Head, Institutional Collaboration & Program Division (ICPD), DAE, said, “This Mega Science exhibition will be a treat to the people of Kolkata who follow science as enthusiasts as well as students. We want to attract as many budding scientists also to bolster scientific innovations and discoveries in the country.” he also added “Vigyan Samagam was conceived on three important perspectives- for students to look beyond the conventional engineering or medical and consider science as a career option. Then for the academia especially for scientists and engineers since all these projects involve very high technology, it is very good for engineers to get into the designing of it and participate along with the industry to develop them and then supply to the place where the project is coming up. Almost 70% of our contribution is in kind. Once we collaborate with international projects and we have to cater to their standards, even after the project is over, we become competitive enough for any further projects in terms of skills. All these mega science projects are where many countries are participating together for these projects and you can only participate if you have the calibre, infrastructure, etc. With our current infrastructure we are collaborating as equal partners with them. Our schools and colleges should develop their infrastructure to cater to these needs.”
