We, the Bengali are always emotional about our roots and culture, and whenever we get a chance to remember our forgotten days, we become sentimental. And, one such word, that has the power to make each one of us nostalgic, is “Chilekotha”. It is something, which can instantly bring back our childhood and teenage memories. Chilekotha was such a place, which used to shift its role from one relationship to the other. For friends, and cousins, it was
a place where all the gossips took place during summer afternoons; for the monsoon evenings it was a place to listen to the variety of Grandmother’s tales from the granny and building bond with her. Besides being a witness of our secret readings of those “boroder magazines” on the winter afternoons, to the love stories and heartbreaks, the Chilekotha has observed every part of our growing up.
But with the changing era, the appeal of Chilekotha had lost gradually. New age generation has forgotten to spare time with each other, their every leisure moment has been caught up by various electronic gadgets. To recall those
unremembered moments, Deblina Chakrabarty has launched “Chilekotha”, in the city of joy to gift some indelible loving moments accompanied by some nostalgic and unprecedented culinary excellence. Located in Gariahat, the interior of Chilekotha is designed in a retro Kolkata style to hold back the heritage of the City of Joy. This 50 seater restaurant brings to plate an amalgamation of authentic and progressive Bengali cuisines, and fusion food with a hint of “Bangla’r Moshla”, opens the door for people from all walks of life. At Chilekotha, one can enjoy the authentic Bangladeshi cuisines Dhakai Roast, Morog Polao, Chitol Muitha to Sutanuti’r Fish Kobiraji, Dacres Lane er Chicken Fry, Boro Pishir Maach Makha, Robibarer Murgir Jhol, Manicktola’r Katol, Hatibaganer Pabda, Thakumar Tel Koi and so on. There are also options for those who have inclinations towards continental food.
Maintaining the roots of this restaurant and to give a quirky taste to our tastebuds they offer continental food with a Bengali twist in it. They have Baked Green Chutney Chicken, Pinacolada Prawns, Gandhoraj Chicken,Prawn Tok Jhal Mishti, Fish in Pumpkin sauce, Saheb Pasta, and many such lipsmaking dishes in their Chilekotha Fusion menu. To wash these down you can choose your beverage from Aam pora Sorbot, Sobuj Dhankhet, Dushtu Minty, Chilekothar Nirjoney, and so on. To sweeten the reason of your visit, they cater mind-blowing desserts like Baked Patishapta, Gondhoraj Delight, Komola Delight, Guava and Kanchalanka Custard, Payesh, Pan Mousse with a hint of gulkand, Ladikeni Flambe, etc.
Besides the food, the wooden furniture, Kori Borga ceilings of the old Kolkata, the window panes, chandeliers and curtains made of khus khus will give you the nostalgic Bengali experience, even you can see the portraits covering side wall, which depicts the streets of Kolkata. There is a corner in this restaurant which consists of musical instruments, where people can sit and play the instruments; they named the corner as“Addazone”, which is definitely a special attraction of the diner, because the name Chilekotha is absolutely incomplete without the feel of ‘adda’ for any Bengali.
Chilekotha has the ultimate atmosphere and charm of old Kolkata, and their main motto being “Shaddhyer moddhe ichhe puron”, a meal for 2 would cost Rs. 1000/- +taxes. So just plan your next adda session with your friends, family
or your special someone, only at Chilekotha. The restaurant remains open from 11.30 AM to 10.30PM everyday.
