Kolkata has always been very passionate with all forms of sports. Cricket is considered as the life blood of the city. To make this event historic for the sports lovers of the city, Michael Clarke handed over Sir Donald Bradman’s bat (often referred as The Don), from the first India Australia Tour of 1947-48 on behalf of Nikhil Daftary, eminent sports collector from Melbourne, who actually presented and loaned the bat to the museum. He further added dynamism to this tremendous event by presenting a signed hand painted poster capturing his highest moment in cricket, where he scored 329 not out against India in January 2012 in Sydney.
Sir Donald Bradman is one of the most respected players in the history of world cricket. His bats & other artefacts are undoubtedly considered as a collector’s item which is sought after by museums across the world.
Those artefacts now being a part of the Fanattic Sports Museum proves that it is best sports museum of India. The museum not only displays the proud achievements of the Indian sports personalities which include Sachin Tendulkar’s 100th 100 gloves, bat, sweater and jersey. The collection also includes PV Sindhu’s Rio Medal winning jerseys and contributions from VVS Laxman, Sourav Ganguly, Virat Kohli, Deepa Malik, Abhinav Bindra, Devendra Jhajharia, Ajinkya Rahane, Ravichandran Ashwin, Karun Nair, Mary Kom, Vijender Singh and Gopichand. The museum aims to enthuse the audience about India’s Olympic encounter from the very start in the 1880s and focus on Indian cricket from its inception and even earlier. This new artefacts is now going to be an added and attraction for the city.
Dr. Boria Majumdar said, “It’s a privilege to have Michael back and I am delighted that he has presented Sir Donad Brandman’s Bat which is a special addition inside the museum”.
