Manipal Hospitals the second largest health-care provider in the country conducted a workshop on Pediatric Sleep at Salt Lake, Kolkata. Though we spend about 1/3rd of our lifetime sleeping, the awareness about sleep issues is very poor. Hence the workshop’s was designed to raise awareness about sleep problems in children among Pediatricians. Dr. Pallab Chatterjee, Consultant Paediatric Manipal Hospital, said that the session was attended by a diverse group of doctors, including pediatricians and ENT specialists from all across the country, and the faculty comprised of Pediatric Sleep specialists from across the globe, including Australia and Singapore.
Sleep deprivation in children has recently become a widespread issue. Many young children exhibit indicators of restless sleep, snoring, difficulties waking up in the morning, and lack of attention in school, leading to deterioration in academic performance.
Caffeine consumption, as well as addiction to mobile phones and computers, have all contributed to children’s sleep disruption. However, there are additional issues, such as obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA), which causes nasal obstruction, and behavioural insomnia, in which youngsters exhibit signs of restlessness.
During the programme, participants gained insight into how to approach the challenge. It contained a demonstration of Level 1 Video Polysomnography, as well as ways for reading the polysomnography report, according to Dr. Chatterjee. He went on to say that it is critical to raise awareness about sophisticated technology in order to give complete illness care. The session would alter the practise dimension and offer up new possibilities for excellent medical practises.
Mr. Arindam Banerjee, Hospital Director, Manipal Hospital, Salt Lake, Kolkata said, “We have taken such initiatives in the past and we aim to keep working for the benefit of the society. Our qualified team of doctors and hospital staff always encourage such awareness sessions and we look forward for more participants to benefit on the same.”
