First B2B International Jewellery Show in Eastern India . The Gems and Jewellery sector plays a significant role in the Indian economy, contributing around 6-7 per cent of the country’s GDP. It also employs over 2.5 million workers. One of the fastest growing sectors, it is extremely export oriented and labor intensive. Based on its potential for growth and value addition, the Government of India has declared the Gems and Jewellery sector as a focus area for export promotion. The Government has recently undertaken various measures to promote investments and to upgrade technology and skills to promote ‘Brand India’ in the international market.
West Bengal (WB) is deemed to be one of the largest hub of the Indian jewellery market because of its low costs and availability of high-skilled labour. Keeping the above in mind, Swarna Shilpa Bachao Committee and KNC Services plan to organise a premiere B2b exhibition in Kolkata – Bengal International Jewellery Show (BIJS) from 12th to 14th January 2019 at Netaji Indoor Stadium. The announcement for the same took place today at The Lalit Great Eastern in the presence of Mr. Subir Kumar Sen, President SSBC, Co-Convenor BIJS; Mr. Ravi Karel, Secretary, Bullion Gem & Jewellery Association, West Bengal; Mr. Samar Dey, Working President, SSBC; Mr. Shankar Sen, Regional Chairman, Gem & Jewellery Council (GJC); Mr. Pankaj Parekh, Regional Chairman, IBJA; Suraj Hijji, S P Kulthia and Anup Ganatraa, Members of BGJA;along with Mrs. Kranti Nagvekar, Managing Director, KNC Services.
On the occasion, Mrs. Kranti Nagvekar said, “We firmly believe that WB jewellery trade has the potential to tap the untapped buyers, to create huge revenue opportunities for the state. BIJS will help present WB jewellery industry in the international and domestic markets to promote handcrafted Jewellery which is essence of Bengal. We have the expertise and knowledge to bring the buyers from the highly potential markets like Middle East, south East Asia and neighboring countries.”
Mr. Samar Kumar Dey, Working President, SSBC said, “BIJS will serve as the ideal platform, where over 100 plus exhibitors and 50 plus machinery companies will showcase their latest designs and products along with special features such as Seminars, Educational Workshops etc. Through Sonar Sansar Jewellers from states other than West Bengal have explored opportunities for their expansion foot prints in this state which eventually business growth in this state.”
