Contrary to popular belief that Chocolate Day is perhaps celebrated in the month of February, World Chocolate Day is actually on July 7th. Before the 1550’s, chocolate was mostly familiar in areas around Mexico and other parts of America. The colonial experience led to the introduction of chocolates in Europe around 1550 and the rest as they say is history. Chocolates are perhaps one of the most popular ingredients known to mankind today. To think that until 1550, most of the world went without chocolate is hard to believe and quite honestly, a little bit sad. From birthdays and anniversaries to pajama night in-s and sappy first dates, chocolate is the magic word. In the recent years, chocolate has seen a massive rise in its production – from sophisticated bespoke luxury chocolates to dairy-free dark chocolates; you name it. This World Chocolate Day, we bring you a curated list of the best chocolate desserts in town to sink your teeth into – we like to believe that like all other things in life, chocolate deserves to be celebrated in all its glory. Plus, a little chocolate never hurt anyone!
Unplugged Courtyard – Open-air dining has been the ultimate trend setter and Unplugged Courtyard prides in having one of the finest ambiances that boasts of a scintillating backdrop of the Calcutta skyline with the iconic Victoria Memorial at bay. To make the deal even sweeter, they even have some amazing desserts. Feel free to dig into the Unplugged Chocolate Bomb that comes with a chocolate ganache, charred marshmallows, and chocolate crumbs; covered in a chocolate dome. It is served with a hot chocolate sauce. May we also recommend the churros with chocolate dust powdering that comes with a hazelnut dip and the Chocolate bread; a chocolate sponge with molten chocolate cone that comes with a vanilla ice-cream.

Incidentally, Canteen is also the most popular place in town for a good drink with friends, so if you’re wondering, we suggest dropping by and trying the Thandai Chocolate Mousse. Owner Swastik Nag is of the impression that this is undeniably one of their best-selling desserts; who are we to argue?

Lord of the Drinks – This place is the very definition of neo-classical meets modern-esque. You are sure to find it on every party goer’s bookmarked list. Combine the madness of a midnight haunt that also boasts of delectable food and stiff cocktails; what you get is an all-nighter but if you are wondering, they’re also pro at their dessert game. Their signature dessert Monte Carlo, which is an ice-cream sandwich that is layered with the richness of chocolate fudge and vanilla ice- cream, topped with nuts, and chocolate syrup is your ticket to paradise. The other chocolate dessert that we cannot recommend enough is the Nutty Brownie, a rich and decadent walnut brownie that is served alongside a condiment of nuts, chocolate syrup, and vanilla ice-cream.
