Neil Houston, a gin enthusiast, established World Gin Day in 2009. His desire was to meet up with friends in Birmingham, England, and drink gin. Since then, the second Saturday in June has been designated as World Gin Day to honour this distilled alcoholic spirit, and this year’s date is June 11th. Gin is also referred to as a juniper spirit because it is made from juniper berries.
Great Britain is home to many gin enthusiasts from all over the world. As a result, some believe that is where this drink originated. Gin, on the other hand, has its origins in Holland. Some believe that in 1550, a Dutch physician named Franciscus Sylvius invented gin. Although he did it for medicinal purposes, gin eventually became known as the most popular spirit in the world, thanks to its affordability.
Gin is, without a doubt, one of the world’s fastest-growing spirits. It is, in fact, the new wine! One of the most important building blocks for cocktails, juniper-infused spirit, is now the drink of choice for both hipsters and educated drinkers. An interesting fact is that in the United Kingdom, it is most likely the first drink that people consume as a cocktail while growing up.
It’s World Gin Day, and what better way to celebrate than with quirky gin cocktails from some of the most happening watering holes in K-town? The sparkling blends of spirits, citrusy punch and ice cubes resting inside a martini glass – gin cocktails seem to restore the hyper-fun state perfectly. Restaurants and pubs across the country are revelling in the splendour of this wonderful juniper-laced spirit!
On this World Gin Day, join the party by visiting these pubs & bars in Kolkata that should be on every gin lover’s list. Raise a glass to the brilliant spirit and be-GIN the party!

Traffic Gastropub understands what you crave at the end of a long day of rushing. So they bring you Blue Pea Flower blended with tea-infused gin, fresh lime juice, elderflower liqueur, and tonic water. Shaken mercilessly and garnished with an orchid flower before serving.
Mixologist (name) of Traffic Gastropub remarked, “As I always say, gin is a versatile drink. To be honest, you can use it to make pretty much anything. Anything goes with the versatile spirit. Herbs can be carried with it well because of the natural botanicals in the gin or the things that are a little bit richer in India. Something savoury can also work well. Schezwan Fried Chicken with our gin-based cocktail is a must-try; the freshness of the drink cuts through the spice. You can also start with something like Balwant Singh’s Chicken Amritsari Kebab, which tastes amazing with the gin because the citrus works perfectly there.”
