Bongnese a fine dining establishment that celebrates the confluence of two culture and cuisine-Bengali
and China. Bongnese started its journey on november, 2018 with the ambition of cementing their love for everything Bengali.
The entire setting of Bongnese from its decor ,colors and food is an excellent representation of Bengal in
one part and China in other part.
Bongnese wants to indulge Bengali’s love for food and the amazing fact that every part of Bengali culture
is source to quite a few dishes in Bengali cuisine. Bongnese is a prime example of showcasing the
cultural impact on a cuisine.
In fact it is a widely known fact that Bengali cuisine is not only reflection of its culture but season is huge
factor in Bengali cuisine.Bengal a landscape so astoundingly blessed by mother nature that each of the
six seasons brings many different ingredients as a result a huge variety of dishes to the cuisine.
Monsoon, the second season of the year that wash off the scorching heat of summer to some extent and
brings unaccountable joy to us and gives us a reason to indulge our love for food. We Bengalis can’t help
but think with our stomachs and as a result, for us fish loving Bengali’s Monsoon is synonymous to
hilsa,the queen of all fish.
Bongnese in its indulgence of Bengali food lovers held ‘Baithaki Adda’ ,a celebration of the advent of Monsoon that discussed Bengali people and the automatic connection of of Hilsa to this particular situation. Quite a few people who are well-knowned in their own right were in attendence of the discussion,like- singer Sumit Roy, Bengali film director Satrajit Sen, playback singer Lagnajita, Mrs. India Universe Earth Apsara Guha Thakurta, folk music artist Dipannita Acharya, Odissi dancer Guru Sanchita Bhattacharya, santoor maestro Pandit Tarun Bhattacharya singer Arpita Mukherjee and
Indranil Dey, Sonali Bonik.
Despite the irony of the situation Sun who was quite fiercely glaring outside and scorching everything
outside and the consequential lack of rain even a drop did nothing to tamper the joyous and a touch
fishy discussion inside .The discussion was rich with ambience, bouts of songs of rain and hilsa and a
beautiful dance performance by Guru Sanchita Bhattacharya. The attendees had light hearted banter of
their experience with rain and Hilsa through out their life and the subsequent changes of taste of hilsa
and Bengali’s obsession with Chinese food.
Baithaki Adda was echo of Bengali people’s thinking when it comes to rain and hilsa. As it seems the
Adda saw to the positive feedbacks of the guests and they are now aided and bolstered by the success
to do their best which no doubt will be a flavourful benefit for other people.
People will be able to reap the benifit in their curated food menu from East and West Bengal, even some
lost recipes too that will be available in their ‘NAME… ILISH…. SMRITIR
