Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) has organised an interactive session with U.S-based businessmen Mr. Ron Somers and Dr. William Hall Hinkle to introduce BamCore’s engineered bamboo “Prime wall’ building system to the eastern region of India. They had another agenda of identifying partners who are keen to help ‘scale’ this opportunity in India. The esteemed guests present were Mr. Ron Somers, Former President of U.S-India Business Council, Mr. Sanjay Budhia, Former President of ICC and MD of Patton International Limited, Dr. William Hall Hinkle, CEO of BamCore, Mr. Rajive Kaul, Chairman of Nicco Engineering Services Ltd and Former President of ICC and Dr. Rajeev Singh, Director General of ICC.
Mr. Ron Somers said during the event, “BamCore would be able to protect the environment and produce employment for many. It also promises a Zero carbon footprint while manufacturing its products. India has building activities and bamboo grows in abundance hence making it an ideal place to work on sustainable solutions which is the need of the hour.”
Dr. William Hall Hinkle said, “Bamboo is better here in India as compared to China. Carbon is emitted into the air the moment a building of brick and concrete is formed hence a solution is necessary for all. 13% of global greenhouse gases are emitted from buildings made of concrete and brick, but BamCore takes around 5 days to build a storey ready for the roof. BamCore is all bio-based and energy efficient. A digital platform is placed in the factory, which provides a 3D model with millimetre accuracy. Panels are cut according to the design of the building and instructions are printed on them according to the order they need to be assembled. Mass Timber Bamboo can provide a base for a 25-storey building, which would be lighter, and stronger than that made of wood. Indian bamboo is twice as stronger as wood whereas Chinese bamboo is weaker than wood. Hence, India is chosen for the following reasons: More bamboo than any other country (majority in the North-East), 2-4% of bamboo is commercialised in India whereas it is 47% in Vietnam. There is a demand for building in India due to the increase in population, they want to improve social status and urbanisation.”
Mr. Sanjay Budhia, Former President of ICC and MD of Patton International Limited said, “It is the right time to be in Bengal, as the Chief Minister here herself is providing unique schemes for industrial growth. It is now a changed Bengal where industrial growth is the mantra now more than ever. India could play a crucial role and become a manufacturer to bamboo prime wall building system which will open newer avenues to the entire world.”
Dr. Rajeev Singh, Director General of ICC concluded saying, “The North-East states are quite supportive of bamboo activities, making a major way for us to use it as a manufacturing hub with immense potential which needs to be explored.”
