Keeping up with its tradition of burning the tallest effigy in the tricity during Dussehra, the Salt Lake Sanskritik Sansad Committee & Sanmarg is all set to burn a 20-feet tall Ravana effigy at the Central Park (Salt Lake), Kolkata on 26th October, 2020. Last year, 60-feet-tall Ravana effigy was burnt by the committee; this year the effigies of Meghnad and Kumbhakaran are about 15 feet tall. The main objective of this event is to provide a vibrant interface between the citizens and the rich culture & tradition of West Bengal.
The event is expected to draw thousands of devotees virtually, who will throng to witness the annual ritual – the burning of an effigy of demon king Ravan. Amid the Covid-19 pandemic and restrictions against public gatherings, the event is set to hold its annual Dussehra virtually this year.
Speaking about the event, Lalit Beriwala, President of Salt Lake Sanskritik Sansad said, “We have been allowed to hold celebrations but have been asked to do everything in a simple manner. Meanwhile, we are gearing up for burning the effigy of Ravana on Dussehra, where only executive members of the committee will remain present and for public there will be live telecast
of the entire function. We will burn the effigy of Ravana, Meghnad and Kumbhakaran and will pray to God that coronavirus also gets burnt in fire. This disease has damaged everything, so this Dussehra will mark victory of goodover evil as well as this deadly disease.”
