Shyam Sundar Co. Jewellers presented “Shyam Sundar Co. Sarvottam Samman” at the 6th edition of “Behala Classical Festival” to the Veteran Sarod Maestro Ustad Amzad Ali Khan. The fourth day which marked the closing of the Classical Festival was presented by Shyam Sundar Co. Jewellers. The felicitation ceremony of Ustad Amzad Ali Khan, for his immense contribution to the Indian Classical Music was done by Smt. Bakul Saha, Smt. Arpita Saha, Director, Shyam Sundar Co. Jewellers and Mr. Rupak Saha, Director, Shyam sundar Co. Jewellers. ‘Sarvottam Samman’, a lifetime achievement award was instituted by Shyam sundar Co. Jewellers to honor living legends who have excelled in their spheres of life and have risen to great heights – inspiring younger generations to rise and shine.
Mr. Rupak Saha, Director, Shyam Sundar Co. Jewellers said, “The music of India is said to be one of the oldest unbroken musical traditions in the world. Many legends have grown up concerning origins and development of Indian classical music. The younger generations too are closely knitted with the Indian Classical Music because its essence cannot be ignored. Shyam Sundar Co. Jewelers are with Behala Classical Festival from its inception and it has been a great pleasure to association with the festival. In the previous year we honoured the doyen of Indian Classical Dance Pt. Birju Maharaj, Veteran Gazal Maestro Hariharan Ji, Violin Virtuoso Dr. L. Subhramaniam and Legendary Footballer P. K. Banerjee with the Shyam Sundar Survottam Samman. This year, Shyam Sundar Co. Jewellers is honoured to extend the Sarvottam Samman to Ustad Amzad Ali Khan, a living legend who has spent a lifetime dedicated to his passion and monumental contribution in taking it forward. Khan Saheb is the solitaire who is really one-and–only and therefore ‘Sarvottam’.”
A versatile persona with signature style, the veteran sarod maestro Ustad Amzad Ali Khan, while accepting the honor ‘Sarvottam Samman’ given by Shyam Sundar Co. Jewellers thanked the people of Kolkata for their love and affection at his long and eventful evening.
The evening witnessed the mesmerizing performance of Ustad Amzad Ali Khan. He started with Ragas Ganesh Kalyan, Jaijaiwanti, Rageshwari and ended with an ancient melody of Rabindra Nath Tagore’s “Ekla Chalo Re”. The Behala Classical Festival in its successful endeavor to promote Indian Classical Music has witnessed the presence of many luminaries, who indeed inspired and influence many in the genre of music. The four day long festival would showcase the participation of Sarod Maestro Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, Flautist Exponent Hariprasad Chaurasia, Violinist N. Rajam, Indian Vocalists Venkatesh Kumar, Jayanthi Kumaresh, Bombay Jayasri, renowned Sitar Player Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan, Classical singer Dr. Debashree Bhattacharya. The four day cultural affair started from 6th January to 9th January 2018 and offered a musical treat with the foremost performers of Indian Classical Music. The Classical Festival was inaugurated on 6th January 2018 in the presence Shri Debasish Kumar, Member, Mayor-In-Council.
